Donnell Marsh was first introduced to his love of photography while working at Universal Studios in the summer of 1996, at a storefront called Fotozines. Fotozines provided park guest with studio quality film shot in 35mm, on the magazine cover of their choice. At Fotozines, he learned how to operate studio lighting, develop 35mm in a fully operational darkroom as well as replace and clean chemical solution, and compose a group of up to ten people within a shot. He worked at Fotozines for three year, gaining useful experience that would prove beneficial in his later endeavors.

Despite years away from Fotozines, the call of photography still resonated him. In 2001, Donnell upgraded to digital photography and did freelance assignments for friends interested in the field of modeling. Location shooting gave him a freedom he didn't have in the studio; it also provided its own set of difficulties. However, with time, Donnell was able to learn how to manipulate existing light as well as utilize the environment to provide strong, visual images. Through the strength of his work, he was able to work with web sensations such as Sunshyne, popular Internet model/entrepeneur. Wanting to further his knowledge of digitial photography and image manipulation, he decided to take a break in 2004.

In 2008, he returned to digital photography, creating DONNEKA Photography. During that time, he networked with professional photographers and learned invaluable information that helped him improve not only how he captured an image but also in the overall presentation of the image in post-production. He also gained considerable experience in operating Photoshop, the premiere tool for professional photographers.
